Steam has four officially scheduled seasonal sales in 2026, plus a published calendar of themed Fests and an October Next Fest. Spring and Summer are complete; Autumn runs October 1–8 and Winter runs December 17, 2026–January 4, 2027. Those dates tell you when an event exists—not whether a particular game will participate or reach your target price.
Direct answer
Use Valve’s schedule for event dates and your wishlist for individual products. The next major seasonal sale after this July 22 source check is the Steam Autumn Sale on October 1–8, followed by the Winter Sale beginning December 17. Between them, Valve has confirmed several narrower Fests, including Cyberpunk, Party-Based RPG, Cooking, Steam Scream V, and Auto-Battler RPG events.
Participation and discount depth remain publisher decisions. Steamworks says released games are invited to seasonal sales when eligible, but a publisher must submit a discount. A confirmed event therefore supports planning; it does not support saying that every game will be cheaper.
Confirmed 2026 Steam events
The table uses four controlled statuses: Officially confirmed, Officially completed, Estimated from recurring seasonal timing, and Not announced. Dates below come from Valve’s current Steamworks schedule or a named official Steam announcement. Times are shown in UTC only when the cited official event material establishes Steam’s 10:00 a.m. Pacific boundary; otherwise the cell says that Valve’s schedule did not state a time.
| Event | Event type | Start date/time | End date/time | Status | Official source | Last checked |

| Steam Winter Sale | Seasonal sale | Dec 17, 2026 — time not stated in schedule | Jan 4, 2027 — time not stated in schedule | Officially confirmed | Valve seasonal schedule | Jul 22, 2026 |
| Next publisher weekend | Publisher promotion | Not announced | Not announced | Not announced | Valve discount formats | Jul 22, 2026 |
A themed Fest is not automatically a store-wide discount event for every product in that theme. Valve applies eligibility criteria, publishers control participation, and some eligible products may appear without a discount.

Estimated seasonal windows
No estimate is needed for the four 2026 Steam seasonal sales: Valve has published all four dates. This edition does not create replacement estimates for already confirmed events.
Publisher weekends and unlisted custom promotions do not follow one public annual calendar. Their next window is Not announced, not an estimate. If a future event lacks a Valve date, this guide will use the exact label “Estimated window — not announced by Valve” and will keep that row separate from confirmed records.
That distinction matters because a recurring month is not an official booking. Historical timing can support a planning range, but only a Valve schedule, official event page, or publisher announcement can change the status to Officially confirmed.
Seasonal sales
Steam’s Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter sales are the broadest planned events. Valve says these seasonal sales run four times a year and are open to released games that meet the applicable rules. The events take over the storefront, but individual participation still requires a submitted publisher discount.
Seasonal sales receive a specific cooldown exception: a custom discount shortly before or after does not by itself block participation. The exception does not erase the 30-day release cooldown or a cooldown caused by a price increase. A newly released product can therefore remain at full price during a major seasonal event.
Use seasonal dates to schedule a full wishlist review, not to predict a discount for one title. The Steam sale survival guide provides the checkout process once an event is active.
Themed festivals
Themed Fests spotlight games that meet a defined category or mechanic. Valve’s current schedule describes each theme and notes that discounted games are prioritized, while free games, coming-soon pages, and demos may also participate. That mix makes a Fest useful for discovery but prevents the event page itself from proving a live discount.

Open the exact product page after finding a game in a Fest. Confirm whether the listing is a base game, demo, downloadable content, soundtrack, or bundle. Then compare the final local price rather than assuming every featured tile is a sale item.
Next Fest is different: Valve defines it as an event for upcoming games with playable demos, developer interaction, and livestreams. It can help you test unreleased games, but a demo event should not be treated as a calendar of full-game discounts.
Publisher weekends and daily deals
Valve documents Daily Deals, Midweek Deals, Weekend Deals, publisher sales, and custom discounts as separate promotional formats. Publisher weekends are not a single synchronized calendar, so “next publisher weekend” remains Not announced until a publisher or Valve posts a specific event.
These smaller promotions may produce a better price for one publisher’s catalog than a seasonal sale, but that is a possibility rather than a rule. Compare the same edition and supported history. Do not infer a future repeat from one prior promotion.
Steamworks says Daily Deal featuring lasts 24 hours while the underlying discount can run 7–14 days. Midweek featuring runs 72 hours and Weekend featuring runs 96 hours, with their discounts configurable within Valve’s stated ranges. The visible feature window and the purchasable discount window are therefore not always identical.
When new releases first discount
Steam’s normal rule prevents a product from being discounted for 30 days after release, including an Early Access release and full release, with an optional launch discount as the stated exception. Launch discounts must be configured before release and can run 7–14 days.

This rule does not predict when a publisher will choose the first post-launch discount. A product becoming eligible on day 31 can remain at full price. Avoid claims that all new releases discount after three or six months unless a specific publisher has announced that plan.
If a release occurs fewer than 30 days before a seasonal sale, check the official product page rather than assuming seasonal participation. Valve’s seasonal-sale FAQ explains that a product can join after its cooldown ends while the event is still in progress, but eligibility and publisher action are still required.
When older games receive deeper discounts
Valve’s publisher guidance recommends stepping discounts up over time rather than jumping immediately to a very deep reduction. That is guidance, not a consumer guarantee. Publishers can hold a price, change a base price, choose a smaller discount, or skip an event.
For an older game, compare the exact edition with DealCheckpoint’s tracked USD history where supported and check the current local cart. A prior low documents an observed price; it does not promise the same or a deeper price at the next event.
Publisher sales can be especially relevant for an older franchise because multiple catalog titles and DLC may be promoted together. Still, wait only when the uncertain saving is worth delaying your planned play date.
DLC and complete-edition timing
Base games and DLC do not have to use identical discount percentages. Steamworks recommends coordinating editions and DLC for promotional effect, while acknowledging that newer and older DLC can reasonably use different discounts.
A Complete, Deluxe, Gold, or Ultimate label is publisher-defined. Check the included packages every time. A complete-the-set Steam Bundle can personalize its total around products already owned, while another package may not.
When a major expansion is announced, waiting for an updated bundle can be reasonable, but do not claim that a complete edition will appear until the publisher confirms it. Compare only products with the same content.
How long Steam discounts usually last
There is no single duration for every Steam discount. Valve says custom discounts cannot run shorter than one day or longer than 14 days. Launch discounts run 7–14 days. Curated featuring and the underlying discount may have different lengths, and the seasonal or themed event has its own published boundary.
Use the end time attached to the exact offer. Do not copy a homepage event deadline onto a product without checking that product’s displayed discount. For calendar rows where Valve’s schedule gives a date but not a time, this guide says so rather than supplying an assumed UTC boundary.
Wishlist notifications and My Radar
Valve says a promotional wishlist alert normally requires at least 20% off, more than eight hours, and inclusion of the game’s lowest-priced package. Email verification, communication preferences, traffic, and a product-level notification cooldown can affect delivery. Bundle discount changes do not trigger the same wishlist notification. An alert is a signal to inspect the offer, not proof that it is the best price.
Use My Radar to save a target and return for a fresh check. It complements Steam’s wishlist by adding your own threshold, but neither tool should replace edition, region, and checkout verification.
The real PC game deal guide explains how to match the seller, product identity, and price history before paying.
Buy-now-versus-wait framework
| Situation | Decision lean | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Exact edition meets your target and you will play now | Buy | Calendar timing adds little when fit and price already pass |
| Game is full price during a confirmed event | Wait or reassess | Participation is publisher-controlled and another promotion may occur |
| New release is still inside a cooldown | Do not predict a seasonal discount | Eligibility and publisher intent are separate |
| Older backlog title is above its tracked USD low | Wait if delay is painless | History is useful only within the matched supported record |
| Friends are starting a co-op game this week | Buy if budget and edition pass | Immediate use can outweigh an uncertain future saving |

Regional timing and timezone

Valve often states event boundaries in Pacific Time. Pacific Daylight Time is UTC−7 and Pacific Standard Time is UTC−8, so the UTC boundary can change after daylight-saving transitions. Use the offset printed in the official event source instead of applying one conversion to the whole year.
The date does not universalize the price. Steam partners manage prices across supported currencies and region groups, and tax display follows local norms. Check your account’s product page and final cart.
Calendar maintenance policy
DealCheckpoint checks this calendar against Valve’s Upcoming Steam Events page, seasonal-sale documentation, named event documentation, and official Steam announcements. The source-checked date appears on the page and in each calendar record.
A row changes from Not announced or Estimated from recurring seasonal timing only when an official source publishes the event. If Valve revises a date, DealCheckpoint updates the row, modification date, and source record; it does not silently preserve the old date as confirmed.
Completed events remain marked Officially completed for historical clarity. The page never turns a past date into evidence that an unannounced future event will repeat.
Frequently asked questions
Does every game go on sale during a Steam seasonal sale?
No. Valve opens seasonal sales to eligible released games, but publishers control whether they submit a discount for each product. Individual games can remain at full price.
Are the Autumn and Winter 2026 dates estimates?
No. Valve’s Steamworks seasonal-sale documentation confirms October 1–8 for Autumn and December 17, 2026–January 4, 2027 for Winter.
Is Steam Next Fest a sale?
It is primarily a multi-day event for upcoming games with playable demos, developer interaction, and livestreams. Some surrounding promotions may exist, but the confirmed Next Fest date does not promise a full-game discount.
Can a publisher weekend beat a seasonal sale?
It can for an individual title, but no general rule guarantees that outcome. Compare the same edition and current local total when the publisher event is live.
Why do some calendar rows omit a UTC time?
The cited schedule publishes dates without an exact boundary for those rows. DealCheckpoint leaves the time unstated instead of inventing a conversion.
Final planning advice
Plan around confirmed dates, but shop at product level. Add likely purchases to the wishlist, set a target in My Radar, and review the exact edition and local total when a notification arrives.
The calendar reduces uncertainty about when Valve’s events occur. It cannot tell you whether a publisher will participate, how deep the discount will be, or whether the game fits your budget and schedule. Treat every unannounced event as unannounced and every estimated window as an estimate until an official source changes its status.
