Grand Theft Auto VI is now available to pre-order ahead of its November 19, 2026 release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. In the United States, the Standard Edition is priced at $79.99, while the Ultimate Edition costs $99.99. Rockstar Games has not announced a PC version, a PC release date or support for older PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

The official pre-order announcement also answers several questions that had surrounded GTA 6 for years. Preloading begins one week before launch, the retail box does not contain a game disc, and the currently announced product is described as a single-player experience.

Here is everything Rockstar Games and the official platform stores have confirmed so far. For more release tracking, see our upcoming games desk and latest gaming news.

GTA 6 release date

The current official GTA 6 release date is Thursday, November 19, 2026. The game is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar’s current store pages and Take-Two’s latest investor materials continue to use the November 19 date.

Older articles may still show May 26, 2026. That was a previously announced date and is no longer current.

GTA 6 price and editions

EditionUS price
GTA 6 Standard Edition$79.99
GTA 6 Ultimate Edition$99.99
Ultimate Edition Upgrade$20.00

Regional prices vary by platform and country. The US prices are confirmed by Take-Two, PlayStation Store and Xbox Store.

The Standard Edition includes the main game. The Ultimate Edition includes the game and a separate Ultimate Edition Upgrade containing additional vehicles, weapons, clothing, properties, businesses and customization items spread across Jason and Lucia’s story. If you are comparing other launch-window buys, browse current game deals separately — GTA 6 is a full-price console launch, not a discount listing.

Rockstar lists premium Ultimate Edition content including the 1995 Grotti Cheetah, Hawk & Little Morgan revolvers, personalized weapon variants, Vice City clothing and styles, vehicles connected to Jason’s safehouse, the Shitzu Squalo, a 1967 Vapid Dominator Buggy and garage, Rideout Customs Mod Shop, Sara’s Unisex Salon, Stock 305 Clothing Store, Electric Fang Tattoo Parlor, One-Eyed Willie’s Mod Shop and a classic-car collection. These bonuses are described as content distributed throughout Jason and Lucia’s story rather than a single pack unlocked at the beginning.

Rockstar’s official edition information does not list early access as an Ultimate Edition benefit. Buyers paying the additional $20 are therefore paying for in-game content rather than an earlier release date.

Pre-order bonuses

Digital and physical bonuses are not identical. According to Rockstar Support:

The Vintage Vice City Pack contains:

Rockstar says the items become available as the story progresses.

The one-month GTA+ offer applies to qualifying digital purchases only — it is not listed for physical pre-orders. It has additional platform and regional terms. On PlayStation, the subscription automatically renews at the regular monthly price unless it is cancelled, so players should check the subscription conditions before redeeming it.

Because Rockstar Support covers eligible digital pre-orders and purchases completed before November 20, digital buyers can apparently wait until near launch and still receive the listed digital bonus if the purchase meets platform and regional terms. For most players, that reading removes much of the pressure to pre-order immediately — which is why DealCheckpoint’s verdict on this page is WAIT rather than BUY NOW.

Physical vs digital

Rockstar says the physical version contains a digital download code inside the box. A game disc is not included. The physical box is expected to become available for shipping and retailer pickup from November 12 so buyers can redeem the code and begin preloading before launch.

This means the physical version still requires a compatible platform account, internet access, a full digital download, and a code matching the region of the platform account where applicable.

PlayStation codes are subject to regional groups, while Rockstar states that Xbox codes are not region-locked. Buyers should still purchase from a retailer serving the country associated with their platform account.

Preloading begins at local midnight on November 12, 2026 for supported digital pre-orders. Physical buyers can also begin downloading after receiving and redeeming the code contained in the box. The game itself remains locked until its official November 19 release.

Rockstar has not announced an official download size. Any storage-size figures circulating without a current Rockstar, PlayStation or Xbox source should be treated as unconfirmed.

PC and older-console status

Rockstar has not announced a GTA 6 PC version or a PC release date. The only confirmed platforms are PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

PC does not appear in Rockstar’s current platform or pre-order documentation. That does not prove a PC version will never happen, but any specific PC date currently circulating is speculation rather than an official announcement. Watch our upcoming games category for later official PC news — GTA 6 is not marked as a confirmed PC release here.

There are also no official GTA 6 PC system requirements. Articles claiming to know the required processor, graphics card, RAM or storage are using estimates unless they cite a future Rockstar announcement.

Rockstar’s current platform list only includes PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. PlayStation explicitly states that GTA 6 will not be playable on PlayStation 4. No Xbox One version is listed by Rockstar or the Xbox Store. Players will therefore need a current-generation console for the announced launch version.

Story, locations and characters

GTA 6 follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos across Vice City and the fictional state of Leonida. Rockstar’s official story summary says an apparently simple criminal job goes wrong, placing the pair inside a wider conspiracy and forcing them to depend on each other.

Jason grew up around criminals and later spent time in the Army before becoming involved with drug runners in the Leonida Keys. Lucia was imprisoned after fighting for her family and begins the story determined to make more calculated decisions after leaving Leonida Penitentiary.

The setup suggests a relationship-driven crime story built around trust, survival and the consequences of failed scores. That interpretation is based on Rockstar’s official character and story descriptions rather than leaked plot information.

The game is set in Leonida, Rockstar’s fictional interpretation of Florida. Confirmed locations shown or named by Rockstar include Vice City, Leonida Keys, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, Grassrivers and Mount Kalaga National Park.

Rockstar describes the world as extending beyond the neon streets of Vice City into coastal islands, wetlands, industrial communities, smaller towns and national-park territory. The publisher has not released an official complete map. Fan-created maps may be interesting, but they should not be presented as confirmed Rockstar material.

Beyond Jason and Lucia, Rockstar has introduced several supporting characters:

These characters and descriptions were published directly by Rockstar. Their full roles in the finished story remain unknown.

Multiplayer and PS5 features

Rockstar and PlayStation currently describe GTA 6 as a single-player experience. No separate GTA 6 multiplayer mode, launch date or GTA Online successor has been officially detailed. Players should therefore avoid assuming that multiplayer will be available on November 19 unless Rockstar publishes a separate announcement.

The Ultimate Edition bonuses are described as items connected to Jason and Lucia’s story, which also indicates that the currently advertised edition content is designed around the single-player game.

Rockstar’s second GTA 6 trailer gives a longer look at Jason and Lucia, Vice City, the Leonida Keys, criminal activity, vehicles, nightlife and several supporting characters. Rockstar states that Trailer 2 was captured entirely in-game on a PlayStation 5 and contains a combination of gameplay and cutscenes.

PlayStation’s official GTA 6 page lists support for fast loading using the PS5 SSD, Tempest 3D Audio, DualSense haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, DualSense controller speaker effects and PS5 Pro enhancements.

The exact graphical modes, frame-rate targets and resolutions have not been detailed publicly. Claims of confirmed 30 FPS, 60 FPS or particular resolutions should not be presented as fact without a later official source.

Should you pre-order GTA 6?

DealCheckpoint verdict: WAIT. GTA 6 is likely to remain one of the biggest game releases of 2026, but most players do not need to pay months in advance.

Reasons to wait:

Pre-ordering makes more sense for players who are certain they will play on launch day and specifically want the Vintage Vice City items. Everyone else can wait for final technical details, review coverage, performance comparisons, download-size confirmation and additional Rockstar announcements.
